Since April of 2011, I have been a Mary Kay consultant. I
am by no means a makeup artist or professional, but I have enjoyed learning a few tips and tricks through my business. I will admit, not all of the makeup I use on a regular base is Mary Kay, but MK is by far the best products for my skin. To each their own, though. :)
First things first, PRIMERS!
Foundation Primer - Before I put on any makeup, I apply with my fingers about a pencil eraser sized amount of foundation primer on my face. I purchased this primer for my wedding day and since then have been using it everyday that I wear makeup.
Second, I apply eye primer. Using my ring finger, I dab a very tiny amount of eye primer on my eyelids and under my bottom lashes. The reason behind using my ring finger is because the tissue around your eyes is the thinnest and most delicate tissue on your face. Your ring finger applies the least pressure and gives you more control to "dab" rather than tug and pull on your eyes.
Next, I apply a small amount of lash & brow building serum to my upper and lower lashes. This can also be applied to your eyebrows, but I have enough brows for my liking, so I don't try to thicken them or help them grow. ;) Think of this product as a conditioner that helps your lashes and brows grow longer and faster.
Another primer that Mary Kay has is a lip primer. Personally, I have not used this product, but I've heard it's fabulous. Instead, here's some tricks that I have learned for helping the color stay on my lips (I also used this trick on my wedding day).
1. Apply concealer on your lips, yes, your lips! I use my foundation brush for this, but you could use your fingers as well.
2. Use lip liner to not only outline your lips, but color your lips in entirely with liner.
3. Apply lipstick and gloss :)

My Favorite Part: Foundations
Liquid, Mineral Powder & Pressed Powder **Always remember to apply foundation in downward motions, never push makeup upward; into your pores.**
**The pores on your face are like shingles, so when you are cleansing your face, scrub in upward circular motions, but downward motions when applying makeup.**
This may sound absolutely crazy, but I typically use 3 foundations! First, I apply my liquid foundation with a liquid foundation brush (or my fingers). Then, if I'm needing some extra coverage or bronzing, I use the pressed powder and apply to needed areas with my liquid foundation brush. Lastly, I use my mineral powder brush (as shown in picture to the left) to apply my mineral powder. I apply this in circular motions and blend into my jawline/neck/ears.

I use a wide variety of Mary Kay blushes typically in the neutral, light pink or bronze colors. Mary Kay also offers two mineral highlighting powders that I absolutely LOVE, they are two toned. The darker one pictured on the top is a matte finish called pink stardust. The lighter one pictured on the bottom is a shimmer finished called pink porcelain.
This next product is a loose setting powder by Laura Mercier and it is one of my new favorites. A dear friend and makeup artist recommended it to me for the wedding and I am so glad she did. I love to sparkle and this powder does just the trick. You can apply anywhere you'd like, but I typically just apply over my blush and some contours of my neck. The powder I use is called 'stardust', but it is offered in other colors as well.
EYES <3
I could probably write an entire blog just for the eyes, but I'll try to make this quick. :P As mentioned earlier, eye primer is always a good idea. However, if you do not have any eye primer, liquid eye colors work really well as primer and even just wetting your makeup brushes before applying eye shadow works well, too.
My two favorites for the eyes right now are pictured below:

MASCARA
I have used many different mascaras that I like both Mary Kay brand and others that I have purchased at Walgreen's & Walmart. One of my favorite tricks by far is to apply mascara not only to the underside of your lashes, but on the tops as well! Simply close your eye, place the brush on the top of your lashes, curl upward & outward. :)
I guess this pretty much sums up everything and I hope that this gives someone some new tricks to try :) If you have any questions about makeup application or the products I use, feel free to comment or checkout my website: www.marykay.com/brenna.nanette
FUN FACTS:
1. For every night that you leave on your makeup and go to sleep; your face ages 3 days!
2. The collagen in your face begins breaking down at the age of 15!! That means, start protecting your skin EARLY and using products to help fight against aging.
3. Try not to mix brands with skincare and makeup, mixing brands will cause your skin to flare up and break out. Sticking to one brand will help your skin clear up!
